Not Medical Advice
All content on VATscore.health — including the VAT calculator, risk levels, personalised reports, blog articles, and any recommendations — is provided for general educational and informational purposes only. Nothing on this website constitutes or should be construed as medical advice, clinical diagnosis, prognosis, or treatment.
Accuracy of Estimates
The visceral adipose tissue (VAT) score produced by this calculator is a statistical estimate derived from the Bonora et al. (2000) regression formula, validated against MRI measurements in peer-reviewed research. It is not equivalent to direct imaging by MRI or CT scan. Accuracy is approximately ±15–20 cm² for most adults. The formula is not validated for pregnant women, individuals with significant oedema, competitive bodybuilders, or those under medical supervision for eating disorders.
Individual Variation
Body composition, metabolic health, and the response to lifestyle interventions vary significantly between individuals. Risk thresholds (Low <100 cm², Moderate 100–160 cm², High >160 cm²) are based on population-level cardiovascular and metabolic risk data and may not apply to every individual.
Consult Your Doctor
Before starting any new diet, exercise programme, or supplement regimen — particularly if you have or suspect:
- Diabetes or pre-diabetes
- Cardiovascular disease or high blood pressure
- Kidney or liver disease
- Any other chronic medical condition
- Pregnancy or planning pregnancy
— you must consult a qualified healthcare professional. Do not delay seeking professional medical advice because of something you have read on this website.
Emergency Situations
If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency, call your local emergency services immediately. Do not use this website as a substitute for emergency care.
